A 3D (short) simulation of bee vision
Abstract
Summarizing a number of our current findings on bee vision, this video simulates bee vision in a subjective view trajectory in a dust-dense environment subject to air turbulence. The perception of UV light contrasts more strongly with illuminated surfaces, the depth of field is limited to a few centimeters and sensitivity is almost exclusively related to movement and speed: all these elements result in extreme visibility of the details of the dynamics of the environment, and in particular of the slightest speck of dust, captured in a purely kinetic vision.
Modeled in Blender, with a generated particle system for the dust. The particles are color coded according to their relative speed to the camera.
